Projects
A look at recent story pole installations across Southern California — from coastal visual assessments to inland hillside frame structures.
Coastal Visual Assessments & Red Mesh Installations
Story poles allow City and County Planning staff, neighbors, and others to assess the location and general massing of a proposed building from various vantage points. Bright orange construction mesh (or similar, high-visibility material) is strung along the top of the Story poles to easily delineate the proposed height, location, bulk, and mass.

High-visibility red mesh strung along the top of story poles delineates the proposed height, bulk, and mass of a coastal residence for visual impact assessment.

Layered mesh panels and pennant flagging outline the full silhouette of the proposed structure from multiple coastal vantage points.
Inland Hillside Story Poles & Flagging
Story poles (Temporary Frame Structures) are placed to demonstrate a three-dimensional, full-scale, silhouette structure that outlines the height, location, bulk, and mass of a proposed structure(s). Marking(s) are provided as required at certain heights per the City and/or County.
